Migraines & Memories
A Monday morning hello.
Greetings from the Land of Migraine!
This heat and humidity and the general 2026 of it all may kill me. I’ve had near-daily migraines for weeks now and I’m so over it.
Anyway, hi. How are things with you? I hope you’re faring better than I am.
Not a whole lot has happened since I last wrote, in part due to the ongoing ache in my head. One fun thing: I did start a whole mess of chatter on Threads after sharing some writing I did a few years back.
A few years as in, when I was 10.

It started with a celebratory post about my first-ever journal entry, which just had its 40th anniversary. Apparently I decided my first time writing in a diary should be about something important, so I used the page to share that I liked a classmate, but I Lovvvvvvveeeeeeed Michael J. Fox.
Being the fickle girl that I was, the love didn’t last long.
Almost exactly seven months later, I declared that I’d moved on from Michael J. Fox and was in love with Mackenzie Astin, but like, for real this time.
Turns out that this journal was the starter journal for pretty much every tween girl in the '80s. A majority of the responses I got on Threads were some form of, “OMG I HAD THAT JOURNAL TOO!” Second most common response: “OMG I LOVED MICHAEL J. FOX, TOO!”
Anyway, it’s been fun. I’ve had a lot of engagement because of the posts, which is unusual for me. Turns out that people couldn’t care less about my modern-day writing, but share a cringe-inducing page I wrote in fourth grade and people are all over it.
To those that are newer here, I’ll also add that I had the pleasure of interviewing Mackenzie Astin just about a year ago. So, to the me of 1987, you’re welcome. (He was unbelievably kind and lovely to chat with.)
Anyhoo, I hope you had a chance to read last week’s chat with Caroline Bicks about Shakespeare, Stephen King, and her year of terrifying research. Her book, Monsters in the Archives, is such a great read. I highly recommend it, especially if you enjoy reading about the craft of writing.
Later this week, I’ll share my chat with Toad the Wet Sprocket’s Glen Phillips about the band’s 40th anniversary and their new acoustic album.
Next week, there will be no new interviews. I’ll share a couple of things from the archives but nothing new, since I’ll be on vaca.
I hope you’re doing as well as can be. Thank you for reading this far! I’ll see you in a few weeks!
