When I launched Creative Reverberations, the goal was to talk to artists about the art that inspired them. Who do the musicians listen to? Which books do the authors read? What movies are the actors watching?
Periodically, I compile their answers into a roundup of music, books, movies, and other art to share with paid subscribers. I also curate a playlist of music inspired by the interviews.
Perhaps you’ll be inspired by these works of art, too.
Today I’m sharing a roundup of goodies for my interviews that were published between June and August. To refresh your memory, the artists I interviewed during this time period were singer-songwriter Joy Clark, musician Tiff Randol, cartoonist Ellis Rosen, special effects designer Eddie Yang, actor Mackenzie Astin, documentarian Joe Hill, L7 frontwoman Donita Sparks, and authors Janelle Brown, Hazel Gaynor, Hannah Pittard, Diane McKinney-Whetstone, and Jon Agee.
Without further ado, let’s jump in!

First up is the June-August Spotify Playlist. Here’s a quick overview of the playlist and how each song ties back to the interviews:
Joy Clark: Prior to releasing her debut solo album, Tell It to the Wind, Joy contributed her talents to albums by other artists—among them, Allison Russell’s The Returner, which was nominated for four Grammy Awards. Included in the playlist are “The Returner” and two of my favorite Joy Clark songs, “Guest” and “Lesson.”
Tiff Randol: When you listen to Tiff’s music, whether released under her own name or that of her alter ego, IAMEVE, it’s hard not to hear hints of Kate Bush and Peter Gabriel—both of whom she named as influences during our interview. I included one of Tiff’s IAMEVE tracks, as well as a few songs by Kate Bush, Peter Gabriel, and composer Ólafur Arnalds, who Tiff said she was listening to “on repeat.”
